House Speaker Urged to Establish Congressional Committee for UFO Investigation Amid Doubt And Concerns Over Pentagon Report

Written by Christopher Sharp - 13 March 2024

Politicians in Washington D.C. have cast doubt on a new Department of Defense (DoD) report, which clears itself, the Intelligence Community and defense contractors of any wrongdoing amid allegations of a cover-up and illegal activities involving Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).

House representatives within the Congressional UAP Caucus have signed a joint letter to Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic House Leader Hakeem Jeffries, urging the establishment of a new Select Subcommittee devoted to investigating UAP.

The letter, first obtained by journalist, Matt Laslo, reads:

‘In light of recent whistleblower testimony and new evidence pertaining to the existence of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), we request that the U.S. House of Representatives establish a select subcommittee under the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability (House Oversight) to investigate the federal government’s response to UAP.’

Representatives who signed the letter include:

  • Representative Eric Burlison (Republican)

  • Representative Tim Burchett (Republican)

  • Representative Anna Paulina Luna (Republican)

  • Representative Jared Moskowitz (Democrat)

  • Representative Andy Ogles (Republican)

  • Representative Nancy Mace (Republican)

  • Representative Troy Nehls (Republican)

  • Representative Matt Gaetz (Republican)

Last week, the DoD’s UAP office, known as the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), released an error-filled report, which claimed that there is no evidence supporting serious allegations of DoD and Intelligence Community access to or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial technology, nor confirming UAP sightings as such.

Reacting to the report, UAP Caucus member Representative Eric Burlison expressed his lack of trust in the DoD's findings.

Yesterday, Newsnation interviewed Representative Burlison and inquired whether he trusted the Pentagon's conclusion that:

‘All of the named and described alleged hidden UAP reverse engineering programs provided by interviewees either do not exist; are misidentified authentic, highly sensitive national security programs that are not related to extraterrestrial technology exploitation; or resolve to an unwarranted and disestablished program.’

In response, Representative Burlison said:

“I don't [trust the Pentagon’s findings], because they weren't transparent to us in a SCIF setting.

“They could have brought forward evidence.

“They could have explained what these what these special access programs actually do.

“But they are not willing to do that with Congress.

“So to me, it’s time that they open the kimono, that they show us exactly what's happening.

“Because if they're doing something that's good for the American people, if they're being responsible with taxpayer dollars, they should have nothing to hide.”

Representative Burlison further confirmed that Representative James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee under which the new Subcommittee would form, is also supportive of the initiative.

If Speaker Mike Johnson approves the request for a UAP Select Subcommittee, it would trigger an independent investigation, as opposed to the DoD’s attempt to investigate itself.

The Subcommittee would look to possess subpoena powers to interrogate individuals allegedly associated with potential illegal UAP programs, including hostile witnesses, who would otherwise refuse to testify.

Moreover, the Subcommittee would be equipped with a full staff and granted access to all material and information—classified and unclassified—from the federal government about UAP, regardless of any special or restricted access protections.

Reacting to Congress’s response to the AARO report, one DoD-affiliated source, opposed to the Department’s conclusions, told Liberation Times:

“Clearly, there are members of Congress who are aware of the effort by the Pentagon to once again sweep this topic under the rug, like they did with Blue Book and other historical reviews decades before.

“Only this time, Congress knows the truth.  One must always question an organization when that organization does not provide the truth to those it is beholden.  In the end, you can’t have liberty without freedom, and you can’t have freedom without truth.”

Members of the UAP Caucus include those who participated in the July 2023 House Hearing, during which former senior intelligence officer David Grusch testified under oath that the U.S. government has been conducting a multi-decade program associated with the retrieval and reverse engineering of technologies of non-human origin.

Following a recent meeting with the Intelligence Community’s Inspector General, which found Grusch’s allegations to be both ‘credible’ and ‘urgent’ UAP Caucus member Representative Moskowitz disclosed on X:

‘Based on what we heard many of Grusch[’s[ claims have merit!’

Highlighting the elected representatives' lack of trust in the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community, the letter from UAP Caucus members adds that a ‘major barrier [to investigative efforts] has been a lack of cooperation and evasion of congressional scrutiny from the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intelligence Community (IC), which has only deepened public mistrust.’

The letter adds:

‘Given the long history of the DoD and IC’s lack of cooperation and transparency, it is in the best interest of American taxpayers for Congress to investigate UAP on a bipartisan basis and ultimately provide much-needed transparency to the public.’

Earlier this year, a member of the UAP Caucus, Representative Tim Burchett met with Speaker Johnson to discuss UAP.

Representative Burchett said the meeting “went really well" - raising expectation of a UAP hearing. However, at the time he was less optimistic about a dedicated UAP Select Subcommittee, telling Matt Laslo:

“But the select committee - that’s staffing, that’s money, that’s hassle, so I don’t just see that happening.”

Since Representative Burchett’s comments, Liberation Times understands there has been a shift, indicating a higher probability of the formation of such a Subcommittee.

As the news cycle surrounding the AARO's UAP report begins to wind down, Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, its former Director turned official consultant, is anticipated to spark a fresh wave of stories.

Through interviews and events, he may seize an opportunity to potentially further discredit the serious allegations of wrongdoing against the DoD and the Intelligence Community.

However, there are powerful members within Congress, who do not trust the AARO report and will not buy what Dr. Kirkpatrick has to sell.
